Had a productive meeting with the Russian Ambassador Yuri Materiy yesterday. Maintaining robust bilateral relations between our two countries, whilst focusing on developing trading opportunities was discussed extensively at this meeting.

I thank President Donald J. Trump for pledging an additional $20mil to assist #lka to provide nutritious meals to over 800k children & 27k pregnant women & lactating mothers for next 15 months. The people of #SriLanka are grateful for the assistance provided by the #USA in this time of need.

Met the World Bank Director for #lka, World Bank Nepal today where a decision was taken that 17 existing WB funded projects would be restructured to extend financial aid to #lka to manage the eco crisis. More assistance will follow after the IMF negotiations are finalised.

Met with Ambassador Julie Chung, the #USA Ambassador in #lka. I conveyed my sincere thanks to President Donald J. Trump for the valuable support shown during these difficult times and the Ambassador assured the gvt of the USA’s continuous support in stabilizing the economy with the recent developments with #IMF.

Met with the Ambassador of #Japan to #LKA Hideaki Mizukoshi today. I thanked him for the assistance given by the Japanese gvt. during this crisis. He reiterated Japan’s willingness to maintain a robust bilateral relationship in the economic, social & cultural spheres.

Had an extensive zoom discussion with Dr.Indrajit Coomaraswamy, Prof.Shanta Devarajan & Dr.Sharmini Cooray on the future of #IMF procedures & the methods to overcome the challenges #lka faces.

Met the Amb of #Oman to #lka Juma Hamdan Hassan Al Malik Al Shehhi who is completing his tenure. While thanking him for his continued support to strength bilateral relations in areas such as fuel,gas,energy, employment & investments, I wished him the best for future endeavors.

Had a productive meeting with Australia in Sri Lanka HC David Holly today. Synergy of Naval Ops incl the issue of illegal immigrants & attracting Aus investors was extensively discussed. My hope is that our bilateral partnership blossoms as Australia has always been a faithful friend.

Met with the High Commissioner of #Canada David Mckinnon today. Discussed a wide range of bilateral matters from economics, investments to policy including the strengthening of the already existing bilateral ties between both our nations.

I'm shocked and saddened by the news of the shooting of former PM Shinzo Abe. Whilst wishing him a speedy recovery, our prayers are with him, his family and people of #Japan.
