“We’re not fixing it… it’s doing huge harm to children… we are just crippling all our systems without housing” Prof Cliona Ni Cheallaigh, Consultant in General Medicine at St James Hospital, talks to Brendan O’Connor about the deep impact of the housing crisis

Critics of striking medics argue that everyone is suffering at the moment. But doctors & nurses have had it worse. Recent inflation has taken the average UK worker’s real wages 2.5% below their 2009 level, but earnings are down 13% for nurses and 24% (!) for junior doctors.

thejournal.ie/healthcare-and… If this is done without improving conditions to ensure staff retention it will be a florid waste of taxpayer money and resources. Training up a highly skilled workforce to emigrate to Australia is not an efficient use of funds.

So BBC Newsnight dropped The BMA last night - I had arranged to remain in London - but will be glad to talk again Kirsty Wark to discuss why @BMA_JuniorDocs still aggrieved: UK Prime Minister ignored DDRB advice last year & offered 5% knowing this year’s recommendation was higher.

Seeing this reminded me that Prof Joe Harbison was the medic who introduced FAST into UK and then Ireland when he was a #stroke research fellow with Prof Gary Ford in the Freeman, Newcastle.

Renewables met 40.6% of Ireland's electricity demand last week: 33.8% wind, 2.7% hydro, 2.2% solar, 2.1% biomass/biogas. Notable over the weekend: fossil fuels generation fell to a new low of 862MW at noon Saturday, suggesting record-low CO2 emissions around that time 🥇🥳🍃
