Just back from a short trip to Thaxted — what a place! The evening I arrived it was bleak and windswept, although today it was market day so the Main Street was bustling and genial.

Feeling very honoured to be giving the U.K. premiere of Lotta Wennäkoski’s ‘Valossa’ (‘In the Light’) on Sunday at Kings Place. Working in the Finnish language and with this distinctive Finnish modernist soundworld is a rare treat for me nowadays — a total delight!

Everyone simply must come and hear this tomorrow! Doing this with The Carice Singers this week has been incredible, and a clash of worlds between my Uk work and having performed/recorded this with the dear Helsinki Chamber Choir, Nils Schweckendiek and Kaija herself back in 2022.

Traversing the musical cosmos with The Carice Singers and Riot Ensemble in their superb tribute to Kaija Saariaho at Kings Place tonight, including her transcendent ‘Reconnaissance’ and music by Lotta Wennäkoski and Jonathan Harvey. Exquisite, bold programming that should be heard again.

In hot(!) Helsinki today for a performance of choral works by Helena Tulve and Kaija Saariaho with the Helsinki Chamber Choir. Never get bored of this art deco church. Sibelius composed a jingle for its bells.
