Gunung Ruang, Indonesia has started to erupt. Rising ash plumes and pyroclastic density currents from the volcano can be seen following a powerful eruption.

Anglesey Day 7 - Last day !! Finally over the fold hinge seeing overturned graded bedding and a pod of dolphins. Congrats to everyone who made it on the fall chart for the trip 👏

Day Five Anglesey - Group B photo because we are the best :) Saw a epic boundary between massive Quartzite and interbedded Pelite/Psammite. Tristan had an impressively landed slip making our way down a gully. Our slip and dip count is looking impressive.

Anglesey Day 3 - Started mapping!! Epic folding at Bwa Du and mini en echelon quartz veins at Bwa Gywn related to faults which create the quartzite arch.

Day 4 Anglesey - Had a lovely morning sketching some faulted exposures while the wind was calm. Molly and I made some cool cleavage measurements. We also noted evidence of shearing in quartz mineral veins showing an interesting thrust fault!

Anglesey Day 5! The weather was glorious this afternoon, practically tropical. Stood on some very steep cliffs and looked at lots of faults and 'new' units, very exciting stuff! 😁

Days 3 and 4 of Anglesey fieldwork involved investigating faults and collecting lots of data to plot on our stereonets. Evidence of a thrust fault was observed, shown by S-C fabrics where shearing had occured down on Porth Saint bay (pictures 3 and 4).

Day 3 Anglesey - We have been investigating faulting at Bwa Gwyn and looking at folded mineral veins today. Featuring my very muddy walking boots.

Anglesey Day 2 - Hummocky cross stratification seen at Porth Dafach and so many folds !!

Day 1 Anglesey - Looking at exposed cliff faces with fold deformation today!

Plenty of gullies and bays on day 2 in Anglesey, with some being caused by faults and dolerite dykes.

First day on the Anglesey fieldtrip, consisted mostly of travel but was nice to finally get back in the field to observe some deformation including folds and parasitic folds. Photos are from South Stack, Holy Island.

On holiday in Cornwall with some great structural geology on show at Trevose.

Fantastic talk today by Dr. Katy Chamberlain on geochemical zonation and crystal chronology at Geology at Leicester! Plus the extra discussions afterwards. Thanks Katy and Marc Reichow for it all.

Some exciting pictures from some thin sections I had made in the labs at Leicester. The first few are from a dacite containing garnets and zoned plagioclase, while the last picture is from a nummulitic limestone!
