Todayβs M4.8 earthquake in NSW occurred on the eastern margin of the Sydney Basin, which is bound by the ancient (~300 Myr) Hunter-Mooki Fault. EarthquakesGA focal mechanism suggests the source fault is either a near-vertical ~N-S fault, or a NW-SE aligned NE dipping fault.
Very proud of SydneyUniGeo PhD student, Chris Alfonso, who just published his 1st paper in GSA Bulletin! π This project used spatio-temporal data mining (powered by #pyGPlates + #gplately) and machine learning to help find new porphyry copper deposits. doi.org/10.1130/B37614β¦
