So the Ukraine war is escalating and they’re going to be firing missiles deep into Russian territory? Is Joe or Kamala going to brief the nation on our proxy war with an opponent with a big nuclear arsenal?

CORMAC MCCARTHY—ANATOMY OF A PARAGRAPH: This is one of my favorite passages from ALL THE PRETTY HORSES. Here’s what I see Cormac doing, technically: 1. Starts with a short, physically-grounded sentence: “They rode out along the fenceline and across the open pastureland.”

Pick your poison: caudillo on a vengeance jag or HR administrator with nuclear weapons? The competing visions of the office in the Trump/Harris race make clear that, in Election 2024, the presidency *itself* is the problem: cato.org/blog/cult-pres…

Good idea, Rand Paul. As we document in a forthcoming Cato Institute brief, many old, vague, & discretionary laws authorize POTUS to raise tariffs w/out congressional approval. And US courts have been unable/unwilling to check recent abuses of these laws. Congress should act.

It’s a roiling, slow motion crisis if you’re not able to fully transition into adulthood by your 30s and this problem at scale is going to be determinative in our politics.
