DHL's writings on Apocalypse contain some of his best insights and ideas. I've also been re-reading Claudel's later engagements with the Bible. To remain a living text, the Bible must inspire authors to engage it creatively. Who are your favorite modern authors who have done so?

I have to admit, when I am invited by such a headline to examine my own experience, memories of college 20+ years ago seem to involve far more sex than protesting. In fact, I can’t recall protesting anything. QED.

As far as I know, Absolute Music by Jonathan Geltner/Slant Books is the only novel that discusses the philosophy of William Desmond--strongly recommended!

No AI can speak. Full-stop. Speech, as distinct from language, is something which can be done and is most fully done face-to-face, in the presence of the other. Speech requires voice. Pretending to be a priest isn't the problem. Pretending to be an ersatz human is the problem.

Somehow this video came up tonight over dinner (after the kids had left the table). It’s from 2010, the year my wife and I turned 28 (and married). It is such an iconic video, coming towards the end of the moment it parodies.

Smuggled into the first paragraph of my latest post at Slant is a claim that the Ohio River extends to the Gulf of Mexico. Amusez-vous bien:

I find myself incapable of believing this is real. It has to have been written by AI.

Related: does anyone have an opinion about 19th century American Lutheran pyramidologist Joseph Seiss? Next up after Lawrence I’m reading his books The Gospel in the Stars and his lectures on the Apocalypse of John.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, as I’m rereading it for a work of fiction in progress: D H Lawrence’s last book was his wisest and most prescient.
