This is an excellent antidote to the 'local elections mean a hung Parliament' narrative (Lewis has done the same for LD targets). I think it is fair to say Labour didn't do as well in locals as in Blackpool South, but Tories shouldn't take too much comfort from that

Ah, that's what we need: advice from the most unpopular politician in the country... bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politi…

The high tax burden came under Boris and after Truss's Mini Budget. It is partly the result of Boris's high spend policies and partly due to the damage that the pandemic, the Brexit you championed and the war in Ukraine have done to our economy

Amazing that some people think the Conservative Party losing people like Rory Stewart (and David Gauke, Rt Hon Anne Milton, Nick Boles etc) is a good thing when actually it is an illustration of what has gone wrong

Feels like an opportune moment to retweet this as a litmus test of political judgement. Sadiq Khan was beatable but by fielding a candidate who swing voters and some lifelong Conservatives wouldn't vote for the Conservative Party gifted him a third term. Will it learn the lesson?

Classy even in defeat. Take a bow Andy Street - you should indeed be proud both of what you've achieved and how you've conducted yourself

Yesterday's results show that Reform is an asset to Labour, not an opposition. They've won just 2 council seats. Clear to anyone with eyes to see that their main impact has been to help Labour win more seats by splitting the anti-Labour vote

Obviously v bad set of local election results for Conservatives but this 👇 showing swing to Conservatives since 2022 and Conservatives gaining a seat off Labour in Wandsworth suggest London may not be quite as bad

If you live in or and you're undecided who to vote for today - or even whether to vote - my two penn'orth is that Neil Garratt AM is a hard working local Assembly member who is in politics for all the right reasons and deserves to get re-elected

Respect to everyone standing in today's council elections. Being a councillor can be tough, particularly with councils under financial strain, and your electoral prospects depend more on the popularity of your party than how good a job you do, but it's such an important role

Very sad news. A passionate advocate for local government and a lovely man. Thoughts with his family, friends and Liberal Democrat colleagues

Anyone know what happened to that General Election that was going to be called yesterday???

That's twice now sections of the commentariat have whipped themselves into a frenzy about a fantasy election. No doubt it will happen a few more times before we get to the autumn...
