Oh, Aubin Arroyo, co-author with Jean-Michel Othoniel of this wonderful book 🤩. Including a paper by Arroyo and Fabiola Manjarrez-Gutierrez entitled "Dowker-Thistlethwaite Notations & Classification of Jean-Michel Othoniel's Knots". othoniel.fr/fr/studio/publ…

Never attended any of his talks, but definitely learnt the basics of functional analysis and PDE in his book. Waited a long time for the workbook that was supposed to come with it, which was circulating as unpublished notes.

Today I received a phD thesis manuscript. The remarkable thing about it is not that the name Borel occurs twice in the first three lines. The thing is I’ve known the author since they were a child. An infant should I say. Really moving.

If the question is easy for you, feel free to contribute and make the correct answer emerge from this poll - topologists I'm watching you 🤓. If not easy, you may think first about the genus of the Hopf link.

Take the plunge! Nothing to lose. No need to read Patrick Popescu-Pampu's book "What is the Genus?" Nevertheless, genus is a fascinating notion.

Breaking news: I’ll be stepping down from IHP at the end of 2024. A keen eye will have noticed this in my profile 🫣. The call for applications has started to circulate. It is open to mathematicians having a professor position - or directeur de recherche - anywhere in France.

So, the poll has spoken. In a small sample the #OlympicRings are thought to be of genus 1, or maybe 3. Zero is left behind. Did not necessarily expect this. I'd be curious to know why people answered what they answered.

X just reminded me to celebrate my 6th anniversary. To clarify, it's not my 6th anniversary on X; I joined *Twitter* 6 years ago (during the International Congress of Mathematicians in Rio, which is why I sometimes get messages in Portuguese 😁). I've had enough of X.
