Congratulations to Cadet Luke Mayfield for earning the VERY FIRST MAJ Edward J. Murphy Memorial Scholarship! This scholarship is worth $250 AND offers a near-to-in-state tuition reduction for Cadets paying out-of-state tuition making it worth ~$11,000! 4th Brigade Army ROTC Army ROTC

Over the last few weeks Cadets have participated in the LTG Twitty LDR Symposium @fortjacksoncg , the USC Joint ROTC Leadership Symposium Michael Amiridis , the GEN MacArthur LDRship Conference Brig. Gen. Maurice Barnett and a LT panel discussion at USC for our seniors! Leader Development!

I want to thank USARCENT for hosting the USC Army ROTC Program Joint Tactics and Intelligence Club for a visit! We got an informative tour of the HQs and had a wonderful visit with the G1, G32, and the G33. USARCENT is a wonderful community partner and is always welcoming to USC!

The Gamecock BN, as part of TF Palmetto, successfully completed a Situational Training Exercise involving 300 Cadets. The MSIV Cadets provided Mission Command to three MSIII subordinate companies conducting Offensive and Defensive Ops in preparation for Cadet Summer Training.

The Gamecock BN had a great Staff Ride on the Charleston Campaign last Friday! We visited Fort Moultrie, Thomson Park, Wragg Park, Marion Square, Washington Square, and Waterfront Park. Shout out to Mr. Skinner, the SSI Historian, for helping facilitate this fantastic event!

I had the distinct pleasure of attending retirement ceremonies for two great men this week. Congrats to CAPT John Compton, the USC Naval ROTC Professor of Naval Science, and CSM Matthew Hire, the 4th ROTC BDE Command Sergeant Major. They served 36 years and 24 years respectively!



The Gamecock BN has a new Expert Soldier! CDT Mark Martel earned his ESB this morning after a culminating 12 mile foot march. Here he is with CDT Sam Raymo, who earned his ESB last year, walked with CDT Martel this morning, and pinned on his ESB badge this afternoon!


The Murphy’s Club, in conjunction with a few other organizations, hosted the 3rd Annual Gamecock Powerlifting Competition. The Gamecock BN fought to win against Airforce, Navy, and the USC Barbell Club taking 1st place in the men’s and 2nd place in the women’s category!!

The Gamecock Battalion Awards Ceremony is complete and some outstanding Cadets were recognized while giving the new incoming Cadet Chain of Command the opportunity to run the ceremony. Congratulations to all our hard working Cadets!!

I would be remiss if I did not publicly thank this wonderful lady for all her hard work and dedication in support of all the USC ROTC programs! Thank you very much Jodi Salter for everything you contributed to the cause and for taking care of Cadets!!

This will be my final post as the University of South Carolina Army ROTC PMS. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve here where I started my Army career. It is time for the next generation to take the reins and time for me to hang up my uniform. We Battle! Go Gamecocks!!
