Happy to join Physical Review E as an Associated Editor for machine learning. PRE is home to some of the most influential works in the intersection between Physics and ML since the 80s - and I look forward to foster this presence. Send us your works 🙂 ! journals.aps.org/pre/edannounce…

It was a great privilege to be invited to submit a IOP Publishing Europhysics Letters Perspective paper, and an even greater pleasure (and fun!) to do this with two pioneers of the use of #ComplexityScience for #LegalSystems , Daniel M. Katz Computational Legal and J.B. Ruhl. 1/n

I would like to think about this as an invitation that physics extends towards AI/ML to think like physicists: -"Let's figure out how the world works". This is unlike computer scientists, who often see worst cases and adversaries. Nor mathematicians who need theorems everywhere.

To even the score, I propose the next Turing Award be given to the theoretical physicists Mertens, Mezard, and Zecchina, who infuriated theoretical computer scientists in 2003 by using unformalised statistical mechanics to perfectly nail properties of random k-SAT.

Some people seem to believe that the so-called “no free lunch” theorem implies that all community detection methods are equivalent. This isn't true in the slightest—neither in practice nor in theory. skewed.de/lab/posts/free…

In last week's flurry of Nobel Prizes with Cambridge University affiliations, it was poignant to recognise the connections to the late David Mackay in the two honorees for Physics. We talked to Dr Ramesh Mackay about two of her husband's "personal heroes". darwin.cam.ac.uk/news/physics-n…
