One of the underrated benefits of marriage is that it compels you to live in such a way that your story & identity are integrated across time. You can't just get bored & reinvent yourself every few yrs, or at least not easily. Marriage makes you do business w/yourself as a unity.

Part of why this is the case is that male libido is ordered toward new life and raising up new households and cities and people to fill them. It is a dominion drive. To frustrate or abandon that project is to shrink back from pursuing sex and its ends with one's whole strength.

I suspect these kinds of articles function mainly as a way for affluent liberals to congratulate themselves on their inclusivity and non-judgmental attitudes now that most other taboos have worn out, rather than actual lifestyle options they're promoting.

All but one of the millennial divorces I've been personally privy to has been the fault of the woman. Boomers and Gen X, definitely about equal. But in the younger group, something appears to have gone terribly wrong w the women. At least anecdotally.
