"We should expect to see the income supplement as a priority in the next programme for government" CPAG in Scotland Director John Dickie #welfarerights2019
Cabinet Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville outlines the importance of 'critical friends' in developing the income supplement. #welfarerights2019
Really important work on the income supplement from Joseph Rowntree Foundation and IPPR Scotland. One of the key conclusions is that it must be delivered before 2022, because families living in poverty right now can’t wait for another 3 years.
We’ve joined with over 70 other organisations and leaders from across Scottish society in writing to the First Minister urging that the income supplement be delivered sooner than 2022. With 240,000 children in poverty in Scotland, #KidsCantWait until 2022. dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-…
We agree. While there's no doubt rising child poverty in Scotland is driven by UK Government social security cuts, it doesn't mean Scottish Government are powerless to respond. We need to see a commitment to urgent and significant investment as part of this week's update.
We're delighted that Cab Sec Aileen Campbell has listened to our calls to bring forward the introduction of a new income supplement. An additional £10 per week will help unlock tens of thousands of children from poverty. Our full response here povertyalliance.org/?p=2552&previe…
We know that £10 a week for each child can make a significant impact for families living in poverty. We're delighted Scottish Government has responded to our calls for action on this. Full response: cpag.org.uk/content/%E2%80…
We're delighted to see the The Mirror launch their #GiveMeFive campaign, urging the UK Gov to use the Budget to top-up child benefit by £5. The move would lift 200,000 children in the UK out of poverty. With so many families struggling to get by, the government must listen.
Increasing child benefit by £5 would unlock 200,000 children across the UK from poverty. If we want to help families keep their heads above water, it's the action we must take. If you agree, please sign the The Mirror's #GiveMeFive petition. megaphone.org.uk/petitions/incr…
At this time, families on low incomes need emergency support. The impact of #COVID19 could pull families under; we can't allow that to happen and we must act to ensure it doesn't. Read this from Child Poverty Action Group on some of the action we need, including a £10 increase in child benefit 👇
