Whether you’re the player who starts or the one who never plays, whether you’re the best player or the worst, whether you hit the game winning shot or you missed it, the work is still the same & it always will be. Regardless of your role or any one moment, the work is the work!

Working on a weakness reduces the fear of it. It’s hard to fear a weakness when you are making progress on it. Progress isn’t always linear, and it’s normally slow. Keep going. You don’t fear what you’re prepared for. Work on your weaknesses.

Every HS kid I ask “wants to play” in college. But so many don’t want: 20 hours of practice/weights 20 hours of class/study hall 0 hours of “social life” Some weeks: 6-7 days a week. 6am starts. 10pm ends. Sooo...Do you REALLY want it?

There’s a big difference in earning & entitled. Earning is putting in real effort & getting it on your own merit, strengths & sacrifices. Expecting to be treated different or given special rewards is entitlement. Don’t ever confuse the two. Entitlement= detriment Earning=respect

PLAYERS: Excuses never gets you closer to your goals. Blaming things on others never gets you closer to your goals. Losers find reasons why they can't do something. Champions always find ways to overcome challenges, avoid obstacles, minimize distractions, and get better!

10% of your happiness can be predicted by external circumstances. 90% of your happiness is based on your perspective/how you process your circumstances. What you go through isn’t as important as your perspective of it. Happiness is an inside job. Seek perspective. Choose joy.

The players moaning, complaining, pointing fingers, or looking to cut corners during workouts and training sessions will also be the same players doing that when they face adversity or struggles during a game.

Playing, watching, competing, coaching & being involved in sports in any way is an absolute privilege. Each moment spent doing something we love is an unexpected gift. We never understand the value of it until it’s gone. Sports are no different. Don’t ever take it for granted!

You can RISE & WHINE or RISE & SHINE. Decide to shine today! - believe the best is yet to come - choose faith instead of fear - count your blessings - focus on positives - replace “Have to” with “Get to” - see your challenges as opportunities for growth

PLAYERS: Do you want more playing time? Make it impossible for the coach to sit you! Become a better teammate and more positive leader. Find ways to become more valuable to your team. Bring more value to your team. Make your teammates better. Make your team better.

It’s ok to have weaknesses in your game, but not in your work ethic. Successful people have a second-to-none work ethic. A great work ethic means you’re reliable, focused, dedicated, cooperative, productive & self-disciplined. If this isn’t you, now is the time to correct that!

Players: Academics, like athletics, isn’t always about talent, but about your effort, grit & your ability to bounce back from failure. Just like anything important, you have to earn it & you should. No matter what your plans are, educational development is key for your future.
