We just had a great talk by Erin Harvey from Cardiff School of Earth & Environmental Sciences about the controls on the grain size and runout of post-EQ debris flows in Wenchuan, and identifying the associated underestimated risks. Thanks for stopping by Erin!
Day 13 #TGIF and last day of The Factory was ended by a mathematics for geoscientists course taught by Jean Braun from Earth Surface Process Modelling at GFZ He taught some fundamental maths and statistics to help ESRs with modelling landscape evolution, and analyzing their data #PhD
This week, we had the pleasure of hosting Laura Quick from ProjectPamana at U. Glasgow who presented a very hi-rez topographic dataset of a gravel river over several years. This is done to improve understanding of evolving flood risk.
📢 Tectonic Modelling Tuesday #22, with the numerical work by Chuanqi He & co. (Zhejiang University, GFZ, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (inactief), National Taiwan Univ, & partners in #China) on landscape response to normal fault linkage!😃More details in their 2021 Geomorphology paper: doi.org/10.1016/j.geom…
We had the pleasure of hosting Eyal Marder from IU Earth & Atmos Sci this week who presented his work on the interplay of tectonics, climate, and biodiversity in mountain landscapes.
Last summer for Earth Surface Process Modelling at GFZ's contribution to LNDW23, #fastscape was used together with Jupyter widgets to create a special kind of photo booth. A fun way to show how landscape evolution models work!
