Visited today also the big mediaval church of Middelstum in province Groningen.

This ‘Pompei of the North’ - Ezinge in province Groningen. Famous for its archeaological excavations. The ‘wierde’ (terp) is 1,600 years old, and with that Ezinge the oldest permanently inhabited settlement of the Netherlands.

The mask of Middelstum, dated 500 BC, and exhibited in the Museum Wierdenland in Ezinge.

This ‘wierde’ (terp) that we visited today, is one of our favourites; the hamlet of Fransum in the province of Groningen.
