Sept. 11 1987 was the premiere of Fatal Attraction. Terrifying look at an affair gone bad - or emerging camp classic? I feel this one has been parodied so often (especially the bathtub scene) it's now borderline comedy. Glenn Close is great but who else giggles watching it today?

Sept. 11 2015 was the premiere of The Martian. Hold the potatoes! Ridley Scott's "left behind on Mars" epic is glossy and suspenseful, although I actually prefer the 1964 Robinson Crusoe On Mars. Well made sci fi saga that's perhaps a bit too long; Matt Damon makes a fine hero

#BOTD I wish Brian de Palma wasn't retired; I miss his innovative, often flamboyant style and grandiose storytelling. Among my faves, Phantom Of The Paradise is a badazz rock opera, Dressed To Kill is his finest Hitchcock tribute, and Scarface is one magnífico Miami-on-Coke poke!

#OTD In 1965, the Beatles album Help! charts at #1. Few Beatles LPs pull me in so quickly. Side 1 has the songs from their movie; "Ticket To Ride" and the Dylanesque "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" are superb. Side 2 is "Yesterday" and "Dizzy Miss Lizzy," also pure paradise.

Sept. 12 1948 was the premiere of Rope. I enjoy Hitchcock's stitched together long takes, well used in this sly thriller, with John Dall as another of Hitch's smart gay villains and Jimmy Stewart as the farty old hetero. Dismissed as gimmicky in its day, for me it holds up well

Sept. 12 1955 was the premiere of Othello. The fact that Orson Welles' 1951 Shakespeare film got released in 1955 tells you everything; a brilliant film, with some of Welles' most sumptuous cinematography, was ignored by Hollywood. Shameful. Micheál MacLiammóir) soars as Iago

Sept. 12 1970 was the premiere of Five Easy Pieces. Dig that youthful alienation, Nicholson-style! Jack shot to stardom as the oil rigger kid who rejects those older folk values, just as director Bob Rafelson rejected old Hollywood. The chicken salad sandwich scene is a classic.

#OTD In 1966, it was the premiere of The Monkees TV series. What fun it was! Micky, Davy, Michael & Peter had zany adventures, and even thumbed their nose at square values. And they always had a fab song to sing! John Lennon once said it reminded him of the Marx Brothers. Yep.

#OTD In 1972 it was the premiere of TV's Maude. Long before Bea Arthur played Dorothy in The Golden Girls, she was crusading liberal Maude, outspoken enemy of grumpy conservatives everywhere. One of Norman Lear's hilarious comedies, who can forget "God'll get you for that Walter"

#OTD In 1992 we lost Anthony Perkins. A marvelous actor, he got an Oscar nod as the Quaker boy in Friendly Persuasion and was one truly superb Norman Bates. Two other roles I adore: the jittery Josef K. in Welles' The Trial, and a suave coke-sniffing Jekyll/Hyde in Edge Of Sanity

Sept. 13 1978 was the premiere of Days Of Heaven. The Oscar winning cinematography by Néstor Almendros is often cited as this film's greatest strength, but I also love the magical score by Ennio Morricone and a terrific cast including Richard Gere, Brooke Adams & Sam Shepard.

Sept. 13 1985 was the premiere of After Dark. One of the best Franz Kafka movies that Franz didn't write, Martin Scorsese goes to town in this ingenious black comedy about an office worker's misadventures in the city. Another reminder that Griffin Dunne is an underrated actor.

#OTD In 1969, it was the premiere of TV's Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! Boy did I fall in love with this show as a kid. Scoob and Shaggy were the coolest, and those villains creeped me out, like that green-faced Mr. Hyde. Who in 1969 would have imagined it still running today?

#OTD In 1974 it was the premiere of TV's Kolchak: The Night Stalker. The first episode, "The Ripper," set the tone for this great series, as ace reporter Carl Kolchak (a marvelous Darren McGavin) hunts a modern day Jack the Ripper in Chicago. Clever quips by Carl, and quite scary

#OTD In 1969 John Lennon has a concert where he introduces the Plastic Ono Band. The show is later released as the LP Live Peace In Toronto. The band runs through some sizzling rockers ("Money, Dizzy Miss Lizzy"), then Yoko wails out "Don't Worry Kyoko" for 20 minutes. Fabulous!

Sept. 14 1978 was the premiere of Go Tell The Spartans. In the same year The Deer Hunter and Coming Home got wide acclaim, Ted Post's look at the early days of the Vietnam War is a forgotten gem. Burt Lancaster takes over a poorly manned army outpost in Vietnam; tense war drama.

Sept. 14 1984 was the premiere of A Soldier's Story. Norman Jewison again explores racial tensions similar to his In The Heat Of The Night BP winner, this time a murder mystery set in a segregated army unit. Superb cast, especially Adolph Caesar as the snarling master sergeant

Sept. 14 1994 was the premiere of Quiz Show. Another smart film from director Robert Redford, dramatizing the Twenty-One quiz show scandals of the 1950s. Ralph Fiennes and Paul Scofield stand out in an A+ cast, as the film asks whether those 1950s were really all that innocent.

#OTD In 1982 we lost Grace Kelly. She won an Oscar for The Country Girl and was suave in High Noon, but let's ask the big question: What was her best Hitchcock role as a cool socialite: Margot in Dial M For Murder, Lisa in Rear Window, or perhaps Frances in To Catch A Thief?

Today I submitted my application to Orlando Fringe for a new play, He's Following You. Yes, it's dark and creepy! Wish me luck. If it's chosen, I'll need a director, two actors, an actress & stage manager. Let's make this Fringe ROCK, folks, and scare the pants off the audience!
