AWHC is calling for the BLM to investigate the recent on-camera abuse of a wild horse. “Reassigning the contractor is merely putting a bandaid on a gaping wound. Without strong consequences, abuse during roundups will increase,” said Suzanne Roy, AWHC’s Executive Director.

Despite the Governor's call for a delay, the BLM is pushing forward with a helicopter roundup at CO's Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Range on Sept. 11, 2024, removing 120 wild horses. It also announced that a bait-trap removal operation will begin in Sand Wash Basin, on Aug. 15.

This week, the District Court ruled on AWHC’s and our co-plaintiffs' case against the BLM's plan to remove 4,000 wild horses and eliminate 2.1M acres of habitat in WY. Disappointingly, the lower court issued a decision in favor of the BLM. AWHC is appealing this decision.

Starting Tuesday, 8/20, this family is at risk. The Marietta roundup aims to capture 290 burros from the range—reducing the population by 75%, and jeopardizing these babies' first taste of freedom. Please share to spread the word! #inthewild #donkeys #babyanimals

Big thanks to Joe Lombardo and the Nevada Department of Agriculture for agreeing to collaborate with Wild Horse Connection to adopt out the 24 mustangs recently removed from the Virginia Range. We’re pleased the state is willing to work with WHC to ensure no horses are sold to slaughter.

On August 15, helicopters took flight in Wyoming's White Mountain HMA. Now the south side of the HMA is completely devoid of wild horses. Every band that has been known and documented for years has been permanently removed.

Last week, the annual Run With the Horses race in Wyoming took runners along the Wild Horse Loop Tour atop White Mountain to see the mustangs that roam the area. Little did they know, the White Mountain helicopter roundup would leave the racers with no horses to run beside.

Nevada's Marietta roundup, Aug 20-22, 2024: In this video, a foal struggles to keep up. While it is harrowing to watch, we also see how both mom and foal wait for each other at various moments, before continuing to run. 322 wild horses and burros were captured in a two day span.

Most people feed wild animals with good intentions. But feeding wild horses is a deadly habit. They choke on human food like carrots, hay cubes, and grains, leading to painful deaths. Mustangs on the Virginia Range thrive on wild forage. Let’s protect them by not feeding them!

Rosie wishes you a happy Labor Day! Did you know that horses transformed communication, agriculture, and warfare, providing nearly all the motive power behind US cities by the 19th century? Let's respect and protect these wild spirits who have given so much to our country!

On National Wildlife Day, we'd like to share a peek into the wild world our mustangs and burros call home. Over centuries, these animals have carved out their unique role in this ecosystem. Every single one of these animals deserves to be free. #nationalwildlifeday #wildworld
