NEW - On eve of BCGEU strike vote results tomorrow, BC NDP inks tentative framework deal with Hospital Employees' Union, cutting BCGEU out at the knees with a far less lucrative proposal. BCGEU responds it is "disappointed" at lack of solidarity by fellow union.

Canadian filmmaker Sean Menard recently uncovered nearly 100 reels of film chronicling Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope in 1980. This previously unseen footage is coming out later this year in a documentary titled “Run Terry Run”. It looks incredible.

The Mayor of Barrie helps explain why the addicted homeless population is growing in #LdnOnt. Some cities in Ontario say “we don’t want that here”. (Those who don’t want help out of an addicted life in an encampment). #LdnOnt says welcome, here is a tent and we deliver food

Terrible. Police i've spoken with are particularly demoralized at being able to do the job they risk their lives to do – protect citizens. Then ppl blame them for the flaws in the system that police themselves are also actually battling.

Interesting analysis of Cowichan Aborginal title decision with Bruce Pardy & Victoria lawyer Bruce Hallsor. Pardy calls David Eby's stated commitment to upholding property rights "nonesense," because some BC govt agreements with FNs threaten private property rights.

🚨The BC govt is proposing MASSIVE changes to the Heritage Conservation Act to align it with DRIPA. It sounds obscure but this will have HUGE economic & private property impacts for all of BC. Just some of the proposed changes: ‼️ Consent-based agreements for Crown land &

Citizens empowered to protect themselves should terrify criminals. Every would-be burglar, carjacker, and abuser should know that he is taking his life into his own hands the moment he violates a family’s home. My latest for the National Post nationalpost.com/opinion/geoff-…

“We can’t have an immigration system that outpaces our ability to build schools, & housing, and we can’t have an immigration program that results in high unemployment,” says David Eby. It's becoming 'safe' to say the obvious. 1/2 #cdnpoli Mikal Skuterud vancouversun.com/news/ottawa-ca…

How is it the public interest to withhold "in their entirety" the contract and terms of the bid between BC Ferries & Chinese govt-owned Weihai Shipyard? Seems to me, the terms of the contract & bid are 100% in the public interest.

This is an important ques: what will BC & Fed govts argue in their appeal (assuming the Cdn govt also appeals the Cowichan decision)? B/c we'll never known how not arguing for extinguishment influenced the judge's ruling that Aboriginal title supercedes private property rights.

“They want title to our territories and our natural resources...The creator didn’t give us this land to give it to the Government of Canada,” says Regina Crowchild of Tsuut’ina First Nation.

A huge decision for all the reasons Caroline Elliott laid out, but also b/c the Haida never had to legally prove Aboriginal title as defined by Cdn constitutional law criteria. Instead, the BC govt arbitrarily recognized title across the entire archipelago, incl private title land.
