What is peeking out from the binding of a 16th-c Lyon imprint that is on sale today? Fragment from a nicely annotated MS of Alexander of VillaDei's Doctrinale. #fragmentology

Recycled MS leaf, coloured black by the binder. The original text still shows the name of "Heydwigim reginam". The 14th-c Polish queen was named after the saint of her day of birth, 16 October: saint Hedwig of Silesia (Universität Halle (inaktiv), Ung VI 45) #fragmentology nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:gbv…

Jean Dufour spent his academic career studying and editing all the known mortuary rolls from the European Middle Ages. He was not aware of this one, which we discovered in an uncatalogued part of the collection of Ghent University Library. fragmentarium.ms/overview/F-skg1 #fragmentology

Book cover made from a MS leaf of Philippus de Monte Calerio's Sermones quadragesimales. The sermons were composed around 1330, so this must be a copy from the author's life time or very close to it. (UB Basel, UBH Aleph D IX 13) #fragmentology e-rara.ch/bau_1/content/…

A 1522 Giunta Lyon imprint was auctioned earlier this week. Estimate 150-300 €. But look at the gorgeous pastedowns that the buyer got as a bonus for the 1100 € (excl. costs) that they paid! #fragmentology

An unexpected stowaway found in an illuminated legder from the archives of the abbey of Maagendaal (Oplinter): two snippets from an incunable or post-incunable edition of 'Der sielen troest', with the Middle Dutch version of the bestseller Amicus et Amelius. #fragmentology

I identified this fragment (AM 241 III α fol) this morning: a fragment of the ‘In Natalicio Sancti Olaui Regis et Martyris’ beginning with the (partial) response for the seventh lesson at first vespers. Best feeling ever!

Publication day! In an Archive of Fragments: The Loud Silences of Cod. Sang. 1394, my paper on manuscripts, digital fragmentations, and forgotten stories is out. Let me know if you don't have access and need a copy! muse.jhu.edu/pub/1/article/…

what is the oldest #chant fragment on Fragmentarium ? this page was probably written in 8th c. Ireland, but has 11th c. German-style neumes. to top off its multinational story, it has been in France since at least the 19th c. #fragmentfriday fragmentarium.ms/view/page/F-km…
