Lord Hague of Richmond will serve as the next Chancellor of University of Oxford, having won a majority of support in the final round of voting for the post. Lord Hague becomes the 160th recorded Chancellor in the University’s history, a role that dates back at least 800 years.

This is a helpful guide to what happens next - and a reminder that this is not yet a “done deal”. There is still time to make a difference. There is still time to step away from the abyss.

I don’t know enough about the specifics to have properly informed views on the principles of this, or of the VAT arrangements for fee-paying schools. What I do know is that ‘changing the rules’ mid-way through the academic year is massively unfair to children.

Presumably Mr Pierce would not approve of any carol service which included “Hark, the herald angels sing”, since that isn’t what Wesley wrote - but editing hymn texts must always be wrong, right?!

It is *34 years* since Thatcher was last Prime Minister. This is like blaming the problems in Britain in the early 80s on Clement Attlee.

The Church is not a buildings preservation society. If The Victorian Society et al want them preserved as monuments once they are no longer needed for use by worshipping communities, it is they who should be providing the people and money.

Some of the QTs and subsequent replies regarding this post are remarkably - one might suspect even intentionally - inaccurate about what it is which we have proposed.

I’m delighted that Oakfield Primary School, which I have very quickly grown to love dearly, will still be here next year.
