#16mmFilm was a great enabler. It allowed small film societies to book quality cinema programmes and flourish. During #FilmOnFilm festival BFI we will be recreating a 1950s, 16mm themed, film society evening. There's Lottie Reiniger, Lindsay Anderson, BTF and The Woman's Angle.

Well the Coronation is here... House decorated, now I feel the need to rush out and buy a telly like my grandparents did for the Queen's Coronation 🤣. Did you know the Queen's Coronation was nearly never broadcast? bigthink.com/pessimists-arc…

#FilmOnFilm A fantastic read here from my colleague Patrick Russell and an upcoming chance to see Louisiana Story (1948) on the big screen, from a beautiful #35mmfilm print. bfi.org.uk/interviews/for…

I've had an ace time today at BFI, I presented 3 x #16mmFilm events for #FilmOnFilm and met some really fantastic audience members that have said the nicest things. What a great day!! Huge thanks to everybody connected to today's events, staff and audience. It's been a blast.

A before and after from a post I saw on Facebook. A sad tale of compulsive hoarding and council enforced clearence, but I see #16mm films! As curators we have visited sad sights like this before. Who knows what's on those reels but they look well looked after and labelled.

Working in somebody else's film vaults today, I was surprised to find this box empty. I think the box was surprised to be disturbed too!

People say I'm hard to buy for at Xmas. This year I'd like one of these.. It's a Pathescope 17.5mm projector. This one is a silent but there was also a sound version. Can I have one of these? Originals are hard to find as most were converted to 16mm when the format was dropped.

#16mm Film in the National Railway Museum for the 'Friends' Christmas lecture. There's always something magical about being locked in the museum after the public have left. 👍😁👍

Film academia mourns one of its most influential and prolific leading lights. As a student I knew much of David's and Kristin Thompson's work, and later, as a professional, I was able to meet David several times. Sad news today.

A most important member of our Phoenix Leicester family has died. In every way admired for his film knowledge, his passion for film and for his teaching, he will always be remembered as an incredibly kind and fun person to work with. He will be missed by all. Much love to his family.

My Asda has 2 huge digital projectors in the car park. Tonight they went live & are now screening a promo ad for Cadbury UK. As a film historian I can tell you that this is exactly how motion picture ads started out before cinemas, just projected on the walls of buildings.

Spent the day running the projectors at the Leicester Museum of Tech Xmas Steam Up. 2 x #35mm Kalee Indomitables (1920s silent machines with sound heads added for the coming of sound!) A #Kalee 12 with locally made BTH lamp house and a 16mm cartoon cinema running all day too. 😁
