Unfortunately, I’ve had my ass kicked by people a lot stronger than you. I’ve gotten used to it. All I can do is pity those who resort to violence just to hide the fact that they don’t like themselves.

Pity me? I’m not the one out here looking for validation like you. It will be hilarious when we all graduate and suddenly no one cares about you anymore.

He noticed how close he was to her and backed off. He didn’t mean to intrude on her personal space. “My apologies. I didn’t realize I was invading your personal space.”

“Are you sure? I don’t want to seem all creepy or anything.” He let out a small laugh, a smile accompanied the laugh.

“Does it really look like I need caffeine? I’ll be alright. You know what? I’ll have a water. Thanks.” He then took out his wallet. “Let me pay for you.”

Stiles was known for being over dramatic with his actions and words. This was evident when he quite literally slapped the money on the counter for the employee to take. “You’re more than welcome, Lydia.” A wide smile formed on his lips.

He followed her to the empty table and sat in the seat across from her. He pulled out his math sheet and began working on it. “Yeah. You’re right.”

“So how’ve things been lately, Lydia?” He asked curiously as he did not want to leave her bored or feeling awkward in the silence.

“I’m really glad to hear that.” He smiled widely, finishing up the last problem and putting the sheet back into his backpack. “Things haven’t been the greatest. But when I’m around you, it makes me forget about everything else.”

“Things are just kind of rough with my dad right now. It’s the anniversary of my mom’s death.” He cleared his throat. He was reluctant to talk about it, but he felt comfortable enough around her.

“You would have loved to know her. She was such a great woman. But it’s how it is every year. We’ll make it through.” He forced a smile to cover the pain that mentioning his mother brought him. Having her hold his hand did make him feel better though.
