How often has a trophy win been genuinely transformative for us? 91 was pretty vital as our very existence supposedly depended on it. 99? What did we get from that...apart from an away game in Zimbru Chisnau. Its rarely anything tangible but the memories live on forever!

It’s rare that you get the chance to score an international hat-trick but that’s exactly the opportunity that presented itself to Peter Crouch on this day in 2006. At 5-0 he stood over a penalty as we all awaited the robot celebration (He did get his 3rd a few mins later 😉)

Tuesday's question. What's the 1st World Cup match you remember watching? I imagine there will be a popular one from 1990. I think mine was Italy vs Bulgaria in 1986. #WorldCup #WorldCupMemories

Happy birthday to Regi Blinker Sheffield Wednesday fans saw him score twice on his debut vs Villa. The first one was a thing of beauty. Talk about raising expectations!!

On this day in 1988: What better way for England to warm up for a major international tournament than playing non-league Aylesbury? Beardsley scored 4 in a 7-0 hammering! It’s coming home, it’s coming….

Happy birthday to Ian Taylor - over 200 apps for Villa and plenty of goals. Including the 2nd in the 1996 Coca Cola Cup final win over Leeds.

On this day in 1999: England v Sweden - 1st minute, don’t do anything stupid, lads. Scholesy…. He’d later become the first (and only) English player to be sent off in an international at the old Wembley. Not for this challenge though, this one was fine.

On this day in 1986: I can remember this game and goal so vividly even now. The concept of the World Cup was so exciting to me. Glamorous footballers that I had only read about were lighting up my definitely non HD TV. Maradona’s goal and celebration here remains iconic.
