Black Cats are lucky to have aboard a ship. Stories of misfortune following a cat's mistreatment are found throughout old newspapers. Some say their reputation came from eating rats, others that they warded off evil spirits (Alchemy England image) #FolkloreThursday #BlackCat

KFC is the traditional Japanese Christmas feast, result of a marketing campaign said to have been inspired when the manager of Japan's first outlet heard an American complaining about missing their holiday turkey and having to have chicken as the next best thing #folklorethursday

In Japan, the tea ceremony, or chanoyu, is both art and ritual. Rooted in Zen philosophy, every gesture and tool carry meaning, transforming a simple act into a meditative experience of mindfulness and connection. #FolkloreThursday 🎨Kanō Osanobu

Characotel is a cursed being in Guatemala folklore who spies on people, often in animal form. She steals spirits of the sick and brings them to the cemetery for the Dueno of Death to eat. In exchange, he gives her the bones of the dead... the Characotel's food #folklorethursday

In Irish lore we mark a cross on our soda bread before cooking. It wards off the devil and allows the fairies in the bread to escape and bring you good luck...! #FolkloreThursday

#FolkloreThursday In Russia wasting bread was considered a great sin, so it was believed that after you passed away all the bread you wasted during your life will be weighed. If it weighs more than you do then you will be damned to Hell 🍞⚖️🔥
