This has a wide range of complicated answers, both for (end of Cold war, economy, rise of the internet) & against ('90s were great' is largely from a US-centric majority lens), but there's one idea here that I don't see mentioned as often.

Meeting Steve Albini and working with him changed the course of my life. He taught me so much about music, and life. Steve was a great friend - wise, kind and generous. I am so grateful.

My thoughts are with him and his family and friends as we suffer his loss.

I read before that Fleischer was looking into a Batman series similar to their Superman shorts, but I believe the reconfiguration into Famous Studios put a pin in that idea.

I’d like to think that this is an idea of what those shorts could have looked like.

Oh yeah, I finally finished Infinite Jest for my great bookathon the other night, and it sure is a lot. I don’t think that I enjoyed the whole of it, definitely parts for surec, I can see why it changes some people’s whole personality
