The next generation of Southern Small White (P mannii) has started, I just made this photo in the garden. You notice them as they are a bit smaller than Small Whites and have a slightly different way of flying. This generation should have a large and dark square middle spot.

These last few days the sky here above #Tarifa became a hypnotic ##FlywayHighway as Black Kites and White Storks fill the skies in mesmerising swirling masses preparing for their leap out into The #Straits and onto Africa! #FlywayBirding

Clouded and Pale Clouded Yellow (C hyale+crocea, gele en oranje luzernevlinder) are migrants in NL and show large year-year fluctuations in density on Dutch Butterfly Monitoring transects. Before 1980 C hyale was considered more abundant, now it is C croceus. 2025 up to now.

Yesterday I bumped into this fresh male Sooty Copper (bruine vuurvlinder, L tityrus), of what will probably become a 3rd gen. Also a new site for me on S Veluwe. This species shows a large decline, esp. in the north of NL, since I started butterflying.

To find European Bisons the best is to start before sunrise - they are grazing on the meadows then. But once the sun rises higher in the sky they move to the forest to spend the day there. The recording shows the moment of moving to the safe daytime refuge in the woodlands.

The first days in #Spain and now #Morocco for our guests from Naturetrek on our unique #BirdingTwoContinents tour have been epic! We were among the flow of migrating raptors on both sides of The #Straits with Short-toed and Booted #Eagles, European Honey Buzzards, Black

Gisteren vertrokken naar Sevillia voor een weekje vogelskijken voor BirdingBreaks. Het bezoek aan Brazo de Este leverde meteen al mooie waarnemingen op #zwarteibis #marmereend #steltkluut #slangenarend

Looks like this winter we will experience influx of Waxwings in NE Poland. They are already present in region since late October, now in good numbers. On the pics part of the flock of about 70 individuals photographed from living room window(!) of my apartment in Białystok city.
