1/ Today we began to roll out an incredible 2.5 year project with Reveal and The Center for Public Integrity. We found 1250 formerly enslaved people who WERE given the 40 Acres Gen Sherman promised them, only to have it seized back after Lincoln was killed motherjones.com/politics/2024/…
Creative joy is critical. So excited to support Chicago filmmakers Erisa Apantaku + Jenny Casas. Check out Nya Does Nothing and consider joining the coolest community of contributors to this short film! seedandspark.com/fund/nya-does-…
NEW in Chicago Reader from reporters Erisa Apantaku, Andrew Fan, Dana Brozost-Kelleher, Maheen Khan & isra rani: explore misconduct allegations against Chicago Police involved in 2020 protests - cops who, despite being accused of serious misconduct, may be at DNC protests. chicagoreader.com/news-politics/…
NEW w/ Max Blaisdell: Cook County prosecutors' Brady lists are supposed to include—at least—all officers who have sustained findings of dishonesty. We found 100+ officers from Chicago PD alone missing from their lists—including at least 15 still active. chicagoreader.com/news-politics/…
Very excited to publicly share this project that I’ve worked on over the last two years, but really since the beginning of my time with Invisible Institute: a database showing who officers are and where they work in (currently) 17 states across the country. Explore: national.cpdp.co
I also want to thank chaclyn hunt, Andrew Fan, and Maira for their encouragement in developing this project at Invisible Institute, and Jamie Kalven for creating the space for this work to happen. My growth as a reporter at II would also not have been possible without Alison Flowers.
