Excited to be in Mürren in the Swiss Alps for our Shark Bay Dolphin Research work retreat - great talks and great company! 🙌🏻 Thank you for organising Michael Krützen 🙏🏻
We are celebrating 40 years of research on the #Gathaagudu #SharkBay dolphins 🥳, founded by Richard Connor and Rachel Smolker in 1982. SBDR has shed important light on male cooperation, cultural evolution, dolphin ecology + communication UZH Science University of Bristol Biological Sciences School of Biological Sciences, UWA
We are incredibly grateful for the investment by UZH Science into our long-term fieldwork and our amazing new research station that makes fieldwork more productive (and comfortable!) 🙏🏻 #40years
BIG shout out to our wonderful research group who are leading the way with their exciting research: @ManuelaBizzozz3 Riccardo Cicciarella Svenja Marfurt Kathryn G Holmes Pernille M Sørensen Emma Chereskin Laura Palmer Stephanie Mason (she/they) @samwisewitt Felix Smith and Julia Weidmann 🙌🏻🐬🐬🐬
Field work is always great but it is even greater with good company! Looking back on a wonderful two weeks of the BIO341 field course UZH Science where students learned how to conduct boat-based research and got to experience what field work with Shark Bay Dolphin Research
Phase 2 of the 2024 Shark Bay Dolphin Research field season is underway with a new base set up on the remote Dirk Harthog Island. With brilliant weather, we have thoroughly explored this new + stunning field site. Meeting new dolphins, tiger sharks, dugongs + turtles, is a very happy team!
Great talk by Svenja Marfurt on seascape genomics, ecological change and adaptation in coastal bottlenose dolphins in WA #PerthSMM2024 #SMM2024 University of Zurich
Fabulous talk by @ManuelaBizzozz3 using remote sensing data and environmental DNA to study the ecology and behaviour of bottlenose dolphins #PerthSMM2024 #SMM2024 University of Zurich
Excellent but sobering talk by Felix Smith on the impact of an extreme climatic event (marine heatwave) on the survival of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins in Shark Bay #PerthSMM2024 #SMM2024
