Keep in mind that these Russian hack attacks aren't influence campaigns aimed at getting people to vote for the Trump-LePen-like candidate.

They're designed to drag down the pro-Western alliance candidate (Clinton, Macron etc) by demoralizing or turning off their voters.

The idea is to get would-be supporters of the pro-Western alliance candidate to stay home/not vote or choose another Kremlin fave (ie Stein)

These campaigns don't promote the virtues of the Kremlin's preferred candidate. They're about dragging down that person's (Putin's) opponent
