A very sound message from Vern Gambetta I might even take out the word first, just let the kids play lots of different sports until they really need to think about training in any of them! Don’t get me wrong, coached sessions can be great for kids but make them feel like play!

Any friendly tweeps have access to this paper and are willing to share? 🙏 Pretty please? sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Just finished reading this and it is great! One of the most interesting and practical research papers I have read. If you’re a coach or a coach developer you should definitely read it, it will make you think! Congratulations and thanks to the authors 👍👏

Listened to two of the all time great athletes in the last few days and both had the same message. Ty Murray talking to Dr. Michael Gervais and Sir Chris Hoy talking to Dr. Hutch both said some variation of « you’ve got to love what you do! » Very clear message!

I couldn’t agree more with this thread from Steve Magness Society tries to tell us that we need the next quick solution or shortcut to success whereas what we really need is to put in the work doing the basics consistently.

Definitely not conclusive proof of doping but on the other hand this does look very questionable. At the most basic level, coaches and other support staff have a responsibility to protect the image of the sport that they work in and this clearly isn’t the case here!

It seems like Christmas came early…….actually I think I might have a book addiction, can anyone relate? 😀📚🤷🏻‍♂️

Great thread! Amazing how many high profile coaches have spoken out about this and made the decision to step away from careers that they’ve worked so hard on over years. IMO the problem is not the challenge, that’s an expected part of the job, it’s the lack of support!

Love this quote, so much truth in it. Unfortunately there are still a lot who seem to need to feed their egos by being seen to lead. Less of that and more supporting from the background would make most organisations more efficient and much more fulfilling places to work.

Just finished reading this and I couldn’t agree more with all of the quotes on the cover. One of the most enjoyable, and accurate, books that I’ve read in a long time. Thank you Owen Eastwood 🙏

Really interesting thread from Martin BS (thanks for sharing the research) That's opened up another rabbit hole for me to get lost in......plenty of reading to come for me on this topic! Big question at the moment seems to be how does this research affect training? 🤔

I’ve listened to three exceptional podcasts in the last week or so and wanted to share them. Oksana Masters with the excellent Dr. Michael Gervais on Finding Mastery and then Dame Steve Shirley CH and Omar Sharif both on the High Performance podcast with Jake Humphrey Amazing stories!

My latest book recommendation……interesting, entertaining and with a clear, authentic message. Applies equally to almost anyone trying to be or do their best. Highly recommended! Congratulations and thank you Will Guidara 👏🙏 #unreasonablehospitality

I fully agree, great explanation from Anthony re data and it’s usefulness (thanks for sharing Chris). In an age where we can measure almost anything the question is what should we be measuring. What is useful and when do we need to rely on subjective information?

It’s been a while since I posted a book recommendation but I have just finished reading the excellent “Supercommunicators” by Charles Duhigg Very well written and lots of learnings. Also interesting to read the notes for a slightly deeper understanding of some themes!

Was coming back to the UK tonight for my dad’s 70th birthday. Had my flight cancelled so trying to find other options. Just called Sixt UK to see if it would be possible to change my car rental to a different airport and they said no. Reallly? No flexibility Sixt? That’s service!
