Today's final #OceanPact contains: ✅ The good (no to #DeepSeaMining) ❌ The bad (weak commitment on funding) 💩 And the ugly (no action to #BanBottomTrawling in MPAs) The #OceanAct is promising & could pave the way for a healthy ocean, but *only* if it's bold & binding. #UNOC3

We welcome the #EUOceanPact but while it contains some promising new initiatives it fails expectations of a truly integrated approach to restore the health of our oceans so that they can continue to sustain us; focusing more on extractive blue growth than ecosystem resilience.

With EU Maritime & Fish promising to accelerate #MPAs in its #EUOceanPact, in line with #30x30 commitments on #biodiversity, no mandatory management plans, and a case-by-case approach to harmful fishing activities WITHIN MPAs is one of the aspects disappointing many stakeholders.
