Fantastic to celebrate Diwali in Cairns - the festival of lights. Thanks to the local Indian community, always heart-warming to see families & children with picnic blankets. This community celebrates people's diverse heritages & contribution to Qld’s economy & social wellbeing.

Claims in the media today an Accord signed with Indigenous leaders is a “Voice to Parliament” are categorically incorrect. The Accord we have developed is the exact opposite.

It is just like the one we have signed with rural and remote councils to give them access to advocate for their communities.

This is about delivering practical outcomes across the State and uses existing and elected structures in Local Government to drive outcomes, it doesn’t create an unelected decision-making body. We acknowledge the support of local governments for this Accord.

Indigenous Business Month (October) is about championing the likes of Bianca and her business BRACKS Indigenous Clothing. I met Bianca at the Gordonvale Indigenous Rugby League Carnival after her vibrant Indigenous-themed jerseys caught my eye.
