Sometimes it feels like somewhere along the line politicians have convinced people that we owe them our loyalty etc. They are meant to work for us the voters. They are meant to earn our votes by having policies we want implemented.

So a story for you: when I was a kid I wrote for a magazine called Mondo 2000. It was a cyberpunk magazine, and someone once told me that "for six months it was the coolest thing in the entire world", which was true. That someone was Neil Gaiman, when I interviewed him.

I think some behaviors need to be socially shamed, like using AI to generate a novel or chatbots to write grocery lists. Ceding your mental and creative abilities to a machine is an embarrassing thing and people should be ashamed to admit doing it in public.

Lastly, filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki isn’t a novelist but I would argue that he’s among the four or five greatest fantasy storytellers alive today. Beloved though he is, he isn’t nearly as famous as he should be. We are very lucky to have him.

We all know the importance of staying physically healthy but we need to practice keeping our minds in shape. Read books. Educate yourself. Don't ask chatbots to write texts to your loved ones. I promise you, if you don't use your brain, you will lose it.
