Permafrost thaw has big impacts. Thawing permafrost in peatlands causes the ground surface to collapse and subside. Here you can see about a meter of surface collapse as the flooded thaw area (foreground) expands and triggers more thaw.

It’s time to once again tell B.C. that you want to protect caribou. That you choose caribou over coal. Send a comment about the Sukunka mine proposal by Sept. 1 y2y.net/blog/proposed-…

Wetlands make the world more resilient, beautiful, and connected. These boreal wetlands protect surrounding upland forests from drought during the #ClimateCrisis. Protect #wetlands to protect #climate.

Do you care about the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and its importance to diversity & the #ClimateCrisis? I wrote a story about my ~30-yr passion for ANWR for the Wrigley Institute for Environment & Sustainability's storyteller program guided by LizNeeley Ed Yong is not here. This story starts in 1994.... 1/

My goal is to change the way people think about boglands. Please help! Did you know that being in a bog means standing on ~5,000 yrs or more of carbon-storing power, which has caused planetary cooling? Trust me, we want and NEED bogs on our side. 1/

Foresters, in some parts of interior BC there are some very strange linear patterns in lodgepole pine regrowth. Why? 🤔 Clearly affected by people, but also stocking rates look too high from planting alone, and lines are OHV width or more.

5 reasons why peat is powerful: 1) Peat is 50% carbon. That C was taken out of the atmosphere by plants and soils and put into ecological lockdown. Let's keep it there. 2) Peat archives everything from past climate to archeological records. Peat = information we need. 1/

Allowing the farming of Eurasian Wild Boar in the Yukon could mean some of these red dots (of #wildpigs) occurring in our territory in the near future.
