I'm still not sure exactly what to make of this new Science article, but using it results to criticize the Biden climate strategy for its lack of carbon price is wrong and disingenuous for a few reasons... (1/4)

Very few people have done more for climate action than Holly Jean Buck. She is an expert — an actual trained expert — in public engagement, which is not the same thing as “comms,” as social scientists will know. She also wrote a book called *Ending Fossil Fuels.*

The misleading 12 year Guardian headline on the IPCC's 1.5°C Special Report had a comeback today (Trump:"we're almost at the end of the 12 year period") Great example of why deadlinism can indeed be dangerous - see Shin Asayama/Rob Bellamy et al's piece nature.com/articles/s4155

Incorrect conclusions are being drawn from this recent Science paper on the effectiveness of climate policies around the world. What does the paper actually show? science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… 1/20+ 🧵

One of the unsung wins of the current German government is that its permitting reforms seriously sped up the rollout of renewable energy projects.

In a new paper out today, we have analysed the feasibility of reaching gigatonne scale carbon capture, removal, and storage deployment by mid-century nature.com/articles/s4146…

CO2 storage faces geological, geographical, and techno-economic limitations. This new feasibility study identifies a global benchmark of 5-6 GtCO2yr in 2050. Most IAMs do not take these constraints into account (see upper bounds of storage rates below) nature.com/articles/s4146…

A delay in the EU budget procedure would probably also delay decisions in key policy areas, including agriculture, industrial policy, enlargement.. If the EU waits until the end of the potentially lengthy coalition negotiations, the delay could be significant (late '25/early '26)

Thanks Todd N. Tucker ! To clarify, gift horses are sometimes no good & the way to tell is to check their teeth... Just walking them home to the stable can be costly! See also my more recent paper EIRP : innovationreform.org/eirp-u-s-korea…

To clear up some international confusion: The new German tax breaks for electric company cars aren’t a bailout for VW—they’ve been in the 2025 budget since July. Also, compared to the EV buyer’s premium the German government scrapped last year, they’re a drop in the bucket.
