As it stands, both the projected deficit and the growing inequality harming millions of Canadians are a direct result of failing to tax the ultra-wealthy and multinational corporations appropriately.

Indeed. 🔵 5 Minute Major on Blue team: The signing of tax agreements with just 5 tax havens in the early 2010s (under the Harper government) led to over $47 billion in assets being shifted to those tax havens in 5 years But also... 👇🏾

🔴🔵 Game misconduct on Red + Blue teams: Politicians w/ well-documented ties to tax havens that failed to pass legislation to curb tax haven abuse: Ex-PMs 🔴Martin, 🔴Chrétien, 🔵Mulroney, ex-Finance Minister 🔴Morneau, ex-Senators 🔴Leo Kolber, 🔵Nicole Eaton, to name a few

Met with Canadians for Tax Fairness this morning to discuss how Elementary Educators can help amplify solutions for more fair and progressive tax policies. Public services deserve better from our elected leaders. Let’s demand better.

With record inequality and most Canadians stretched if not outright struggling to cover basics, this budget doesn't help. Instead we get another wasted chance to meet the moment. Food bank use is at an all-time high, but if you’re in the market for a yacht, you’re in luck! 🧵

Slashing a staggering $58 billion from federal public services will cause unnecessary pain and weaken services that help everyday people build prosperity. Remember that these cuts could be avoided by adequately taxing the extreme wealth of a minuscule percentage of Canadians.

For example, a progressive wealth tax on net worth over $10 million would raise over $37 billion in the first year and impact only 0.6% of all Canadians. Ending tax haven abuse by multi-billion dollar corporations would bring in $15 billion a year in tax revenue.

Instead, more tax breaks to mega-corporations to "attract investment". Mind you, we already have the G7's lowest effective corporate tax rate. We've been gifting companies these credits for a decade. The result? A decade of low investment which we'll fix with... tax breaks🤦🏾‍♂️

TL;DR We’ve seen this movie before. For over four decades, we've tried various austerity and corporate tax cut combo platters. They all end with stagnant wages, soaring cost of living and inequality, crumbling public services. So, why the hell don't we try something different?

A tale of two visions for Canada’s future — As Mark Carney’s budget doubles down on austerity, #ZohranMamdani’s victory in New York City shows what people-powered politics can look like, and how Canadians deserve better. New from Jared A. Walker (he/him): ricochet.media/politics/a-tal… #cdnpoli

After decades of neolib policies turning us upside down to shake out our lunch money for the ultra-rich, people want better. Mamdani called it “a bold vision of what we'll achieve, rather than excuses for what we're too timid to attempt". Any Canadian leaders willing to try it?

This billionaire worship has always been weird, but it's especially gross now. The #1 on this list's company enabled money laundering for child sex abusers, drug cartels, and terrorist cells around the globe. He should be in jail, not getting free PR from Macleans.

As the housing crisis rages across the country, the federal government is giving tax breaks to massive corporations, billionaires, and people buying yachts and private jets. Kudos to the City of Toronto for stepping up and asking Toronto's wealthiest to pay their fair share! 💫
