6 September 1972. 9 Israel athletes, taken hostage by Palestinians, were killed during a bungled rescue by Munich police: 2 Israeli athletes had been murdered on the previous day. 5 members of the terrorist Black September group and 1 West German police officer were also killed.

6 September 1943. Rock pioneer, Roger Waters, was born Great Bookham, Surrey. In 1965, he co-founded the rock band, Pink Floyd. After the departure of singer-songwriter, Syd Barrett, in 1968, he became the chief lyricist, co-lead vocalist, and conceptual leader of the group.
