Kevin Adams told the jury when someone gets life with or without parole, justice is served, but when there’s a death sentence, the defendant’s family just sits around. They wait and wait and wait for that person to die.

Adams made the point that David Ware grew up without a father, now Sgt. Johnson’s sons will grow up without one. He said it's sad, but the solution isn’t to making Ware’s little girl grow up without one too.

Adams said when David got clean from drugs while in jail and his mind cleared up, he started to read the Bible and has since started to reconnect to the faith he had as a child.

Adams: He wants the jury to consider what Ware’s “intent” was that night, standing by the fact that Ware said he did it in self-defense.

Adams: There were mistakes made on both sides. David Ware made mistakes and he’s going to pay dearly, but he wasn’t the only one.

State final closing by Kevin Gray: This was total and utter devastation. I understand there is utter devastation on both sides of the room. I am sure Ware’s family never wanted to sit in this courtroom seeing their loved one on trial for shooting two officers, killing one

Gray: You have obviously seen the devastation on this side

•That’s already happened that ship has sailed…(talking about Ware’s little girl growing up without a dad). Mr. Ware made that decision on his own by his choices. Don’t adopt onto yourself it’s your obligation to make sure he gets to do certain things….

Gray: Remember the sentence you give him is a consequence to his choices, he never knew his little girl and he chose to kill a true daddy in Sgt. Johnson

Gray: Take your time and do it right. This is a big decision. Come together and make a unanimous decision. This is hard, it should be hard. This is heavy stuff

The jury is now deliberating on sentence

Jury recommends, judge has final sentence May 13. DA confident Judge LaFortune will uphold jury’s recommendation.
