Meet Ssali a student at Habib Medical School. He recognizes the gender stereotypes attached to sports as a masculine activity. In partnership with Sisters for Peace Initiative, he has supported girls and women to understand the link between sports, mental wellness, and peace.

It doesn't matter how many ideas and opportunities are available, it's important to prepare and build the capacity of women and girls to actively and meaningfully participate in peace and decision processes.

Our collective efforts matter in opening genuine conversations on girls' sexual reproductive health rights. Without addressing the girl's unique challenges, their meaningful participation in peace and development will not yield significant outcomes.

Our girls lack access to quality information on menstruation coupled with cultural biases that impede conversations on menstruation.

We recognize that the desired peace cannot be achieved if men and women in the communities do not work together for sustainable peace. We understand Peace-building as a process that unites people of all cultures, languages, races, ethnicities, religions, and ages.

There is no peace between men and women in the context of division, exploitation, and resentment. To attain lasting peace, women and men need to work together as partners.

Our approach uses both men’s and women's talents, experiences, and wisdom to meet the needs of the community.

We are committed to creating platforms for trust-building and negotiating for female youth space in decision-making and policy influence using sports as an approach under the Women Preventing Violent Extremism Project in Uganda.

The games were between female youth from VE hot spot communities in Kampala and duty-bearers.

The sports event highlighted structural barriers such as discriminatory norms, values, and institutional practices that limit women’s options and opportunities. Cultural practices, attitudes, and gender stereotypes provide further challenges. @UmydF
