Found this day, 13th August 2021. A really rather splendid medieval gold ring, set with ruby/garnet. The details on the shoulder.... 😍 Recorded with Portable Antiquities & Treasure, yet to be made public.

Does anyone know what happened to roman-britain.co.uk ? It was a fabulous resource I used all the time but the site seems to have been down for ages now ☹️ Still shows up on Google searches though ..

Today, I have an odd looking partifact for you! It is part of an Anglo-Saxon S-shaped zoomorphic brooch. They are found thinly spread across the whole of early Anglo-Saxon England, from Harrogate to the Isle of Wight & all areas to the east. #FindsFriday finds.org.uk/database/artef…

The interior of the Pammakaristos church, today known in Istanbul as Fethiye Camii. After the fall of Constantinople it eventually became the Patriarchal church in Constantinople for over a century until 1587 when it was confiscated by the Ottomans and converted to a mosque.

While working on the archaeology of the CBC we found this alignment of Middle Iron Age pits. Made up of 20 pits, 14 of which formed a continuous line, the alignment ran parallel to an earlier ditch and was likely a continuation of the same Middle Bronze Age boundary.

What we call in the trade "suspiciously shaped rocks..." And yes, while they may 'fit in the palm of your hand' that does not make them archaeological 😘

Many thanks to the finder of this Early Medieval gold bracteate, Michael Kerr, and to the landowner, for waiving a claim to a reward under the Treasure Act and allowing it go into the collection of Lincoln Museum and Usher Gallery at no expense. finds.org.uk/database/artef…

This is a silver Early-Medieval penny of Cnut the Great, struck at York mint by the moneyer Cetel. Cetel is the Anglo-Saxon spelling of the Scandinavian name Ketil. York was the only mint north of the Humber, so tend to be the most common. #FindsFriday finds.org.uk/database/artef…
