New data out today show 3.2 million workers continued to claim #unemployment benefits at the end of October even as 7.4 million workers were unemployed. dol.gov/ui/data.pdf

1/3 of the "improvements" in UI numbers is people kicked off of programs, not people who are reemployed. ONE THIRD. 5.4 MILLION PEOPLE. That's not something our politicians should be grand standing about. #FixUI #ExtendPUA

Pandemic UI programs should not have ended until we had gained back ALL of the jobs lost. We are still short 3.9 MILLION jobs. #ExtendPUA #FixUI

Another caveat to the drop in Black women's unemployment: Black women's labor force participation fell between Oct and Nov, and, in fact, has been falling since August. While employment did increase, the drop in unemployment (if sustained) happened in part b/c participation fell.

We're heading into this winter Omicron wave without expanded unemployment benefits or any guarantee of paid sick leave. PPP is over. Rental assistance has stopped flowing in some states and there's no federal eviction moratorium. Basically, we're going in without a safety net.

Yike! If you lost work and March 2020 and went back to work on July 2021, you would be ineligible for state #UI if you lost work and filed in the 4th quarter of 2021 due to Omicron closures #Unemployment

They won't lock down or shut down precisely because they don't want to talk about the nothing that government would do for workers in that situation. AND YET restaurants, shows, & businesses are still having to close their doors. & there's no help for the affected workers.

Starting a thread for stories here. How are you all? As always, after you tell us, you can use the tools on our website to tell your representatives in Congress.

@WHCOS This is not the flex the White House is pretending it is. Millions of Americans are no longer ELIGIBLE to file for unemployment because of expired pandemic programs and maxed out weeks. Businesses are closing again & there's zero safety net for workers.

ExtendPUA.org (@extendpua) 's Twitter Profile Photo

What was that bragging we heard about "unexpectedly low new UI claims" numbers? Guess who else can't file for UI? People who left their jobs, even if they left for safety or health reasons during a pandemic. #ExtendPUA #ExtendUI #FixUI

the same politicians who say "people can't afford to miss work because of the pandemic" are also not interested in making sure those workers can afford to miss work

Congress has no problem collecting additional taxes from independent contractors, but not a peep about making them eligible for Unemployment Insurance. #ExtendPUA #FixUI

Huge day for movement to #FixUI - ⁦U.S. Department of Labor⁩ announces $15 million for states to work with community navigators to bridge equity gaps in #unemployment benefits take-up. Navigators have been a fixture of #snap and #CHIP benefits wdr.doleta.gov/directives/cor…

It's 2 years into this mismanaged pandemic and people who are, or were, unemployed through no fault of their own are still feeling the hits, making recovery after programs ended prematurely even more difficult. cnbc.com/2022/04/04/man…
