The essentials of TV used to be simple. Turn on. Switch channel. Consult TV Guide. Now you need a smart TV, vast array of apps (kept up to date), fast WiFi, a zillion passwords, dual factor authentication, subscription manager, and a love of doom scrolling. This is progress.
