Born #OTD in 1948, Scottish composer & flautist, Eddie McGuire. Ensemble work, Euphoria (1980), was written as an antidote to political upheaval of Thatcher Era. Full title was 'Euphoria - a sense of wellbeing,' from a play by Scottish writer, Marianne Carey, with whom he collaborated on several projects, including his opera The Loving of Etain. Original plan for Euphoria was to model the sections on a different character from the play.

However, during the composition process the music evolved into something rather different. Euphoria is recorded by Red Note Ensemble on DELPHIAN as part of a McGuire portrait album. Eddie McGuire
