“…ad-libs provide authenticity to worship leaders.” This solid-gold contemporary worship nerdery, Shannan. 10/10, would recommend. 👌🤓 mdpi.com/2077-1444/14/3…

Could you test /RT my pilot @leverhulmetrust survey ? All feedback and insights are HUGELY welcomed (E.g. I just discovered you have to click ‘submit’ from the ‘thank you’ page which isn’t hugely clear. This is why we troubleshoot!) tinyurl.com/4k5tjthz

recently, I’ve spent time with Rick Muchow and Chuck Fromm’s funerals. Over 10 songs in each of these funerals and such an education on the history of contemporary worship. also fascinating that so much of ricks music has a low CCLI presence.

In my research i’m beginning to wonder if “worship” itself has become a new form of “last rite” in the liturgical ecology of evangelical/charismatic/pentecostal funerals. Makes total sense! @adam_a_perez Dr. Jeremy Perigo

Amazing section in John Flavel on Christ's burial - "But what need of spices to perfume that blessed body ? His own love was perfume enough to keep it sweet in the remembrance of his people to all generations."

How should we think about humor in funerals? It's wonderfully complex! Jacqueline Thursby (Funeral Festivals in Amer.) argues that humor is human and necessary in grief. Many find it distracting and distasteful in critiques of "celebration of life" services.

"Death as the end of the arc of existence may be dreadful to contemplate, but an infinitely more appalling prospect is the eternal dying of an immortality without God ." Pelikan, The Shape of Death, p23.

From Mira Crouch - In a Celebration of Life service - “death itself is spirited away through the smokescreen of re-enactments of life.” woof!
