Yes I will write to Council. It’s sad our local Councillor will not defend these perfectly healthy and mature trees. The sidewalk needs to go in, no question, but there are solutions that @TO_Transport has not considered. The report should be sent back to staff.

Despite TO’s huge size & zeal for climate mitigation it fails to equal tiny Gibsons, BC, in making decisions based on valuing ecological services. If the mature trees on Dwight Ave were valued, TO would adjust plans & keep them. ⁦South Etobicoke Trees⁩ theglobeandmail.com/business/artic…

Here’s a bit of my letter to City Council on the Dwight Ave tree/sidewalk issue. The sidewalk must go in, but the staff report looking at options was half-baked & flawed at the outset by the premise that the 12 mature trees were of no value to the city. ⁦South Etobicoke Trees

IE26.14 the removal of the Dwight Avenue trees will be the third Item of business on Friday, December 17th, to be considered together with IE26.6 - Actions to Reaffirm Toronto's Tree Canopy Target app.toronto.ca/tmmis/viewAgen…

I call for the city report on #DwightAve trees to be sent back to staff for new recommendations, which should start with explicitly valuing the existing trees for their undeniable value, then looking at more options. The report is flawed from the outset. ⁦South Etobicoke Trees

Here’s tree canopy coverage for New Toronto, where city staff want the 12 mature trees on Dwight Ave to be cut down for infrastructure development. An area with few trees will now have less. This runs counter to the city’s own policy on tree canopy equity. ⁦South Etobicoke Trees

This is what 15% tree canopy coverage looks like. Cutting down 12 trees is not the path forward. 🌳 #TOpoli #ClimateCrisis #ClimateActionNow #trees Mark Grimes John Tory City of Toronto 🇨🇦

"Tree impacts will be reduced as much as possible by diverting sidewalks and cycle tracks around trees, reducing widths of hard surfaces, and using alternative materials." If we can do it for the Queensway Complete Street, then also for Dwight Avenue. Mark Grimes Pamela Gough 🇨🇦
