Fire campaign is part of a series of initiatives over the past four years, kicked off with a walk from the Umbutfo Barracks and culminated at the Inkhundla centre. The resounding message: 'Let us protect our forests' was heard loud and clear.

Together with Shiselweni Forestry, we organized a vital fire campaign at Mbangweni, Shiselweni II. The event united key stakeholders: REPS, Fire and Emergency Services, and UEDF. Our aim is to protect our precious forests and put an end to the stealing of logs.

We hosted a three-day workshop for 285 volunteers from all four regions of Eswatini. The Volunteers have undergone vital training in hazards and community assessments, code of conduct, understanding disasters, and identifying vulnerabilities within their communities.

Simulation exercise is vital to test effectiveness of our response plans and better prepare for disaster events. Emergency response teams, including EPR, Fire Eswatini Police, & Antivenom association, had the opportunity to refine their protocols, procedures, and strategies.

We hosted a simulation exercise at Malindza Umphakatsi in the Lubombo region, focusing on assessing Eswatini's readiness and response capabilities in the face of various disasters.

We bid farewell to Graduate Trainees who have completed their six-month tenure with the Agency under the Eswatini Youth Empowerment Programme (EYEP) funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

MoU aims to strengthen our collective capacity to effectively manage and mitigate the impact of disasters on the aviation sector. Partnership will foster closer cooperation in areas such as risk assessment, emergency management planning, training, and information sharing.

We have signed a MoU with the Eswatini Civil Aviation Authority. Collaboration marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to enhance disaster preparedness and response in Eswatini.

The Deputy Prime Minister Senator Thulisile Dladla together with the Eswatini National Disaster Management Agency yesterday gave an update on relief efforts provided to those who suffered damage during the December 2023 hailstorms.

As of January 22, 2024, the NDMA has assisted 684 people through the rehabilitation of 114 houses that were damaged by the hailstorm and response is continuing as resources building material has already been delivered at the NDMA warehouse.

The Republic of (Taiwan) donated 400 tonnes of rice worth over E8million to support vulnerable children in the country. The rice will feed approximately 40 000 children and will be distributed to neighbourhood care points in specific Tinkhundla areas around Eswatini.

DRR Curriculum aims to enhance understanding of disaster risk, as outlined in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Currently, the draft inception reports are complete, and we are now seeking validation from key stakeholders.

We organized an inception workshop focused on the development of a National Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy and a DRR Curriculum. DRR Strategy is to empower all development sectors in effectively preventing new risks, reducing existing risks, and managing residual risk.

Investing in DRR is not only safeguarding our communities and infrastructure; it is also an investment in social justice and equality. Empowering the marginalized and uplifting the disadvantaged, we create a society that is stronger, more cohesive, and more resilient.

On 13th October 2023, we commemorated the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction at St Joseph's School. Theme was 'Fighting inequality for a resilient future'. It is the marginalized, impoverished, those living with disabilities, who suffer the most when disaster strikes.
