Allan Bird championed native oysters. He was the inspiration behind much of the oyster restoration work across Europe today and was instrumental in the founding of ENORI. We are deeply saddened to hear of Allan's passing and are forever grateful for his dedication and passion.

We’ve finished cultch deployments for the year, and we’re already preparing for 2023! These shell piles will weather for 12 months before being added to the seabed as cultch for baby to settle and grow on. You can already see the difference after just a few months!

Happy ! We’re celebrating that this year we have deployed roughly 900m3 of cultch which will restore about 7,200m2 of seabed! Cultch is a mix of stone and shell which is vital for the life cycle giving a hard substrate for larvae to settle and grow.

We have completed our cultch deployments in the Restoration Box for the year, we’ve had some beautiful mornings doing restoration work! Thank you to everyone who has made this possible, especially our ENORI partners and our funders The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Environment Agency

We’ve been taking spatting pond samples into the lab with Uni of Essex Online and we’ve found some larvae! It’s great to see that they have been spawning successfully in our ponds, next we’ll be looking to see how well they’ve been settling onto the cultch!

Our cultch deployments have been going well, we’ve even been able to enjoy some beautiful sunshine! We’ve nearly finished deploying 600 tonnes of stone into the Restoration Box, next we’ll be adding the scallop shell!

Our spatting ponds have been up and running for the past two weeks; we have baskets with adult in them, along with bags of cultch for the spat to settle onto in the pond. We’ll keep you updated with what we find!

Here’s a throwback to our survey earlier this year. It’s great to see how many species we can find during our surveys! Including common starfish, brittle stars, mermaid’s purses, and whelk egg cases.

We’ve been busy coating these coupelles with lime to assess spat in the Restoration Box and in our spatting ponds this year. They’ve been left to dry for now but will soon be ready to go out!

We love the sound of a shell delivery first thing in the morning! Last week we had 24 tonnes of scallop delivered to be weathered for 12 months before going out into our Restoration Box as substrate improvement to encourage native oyster settlement!
