3. The bill contains a provision that states that any transgender person who enters the bathroom of their gender identity must have a birth certificate matching their gender identity and also requires gender reassignment surgery.

This will be a nightmare to enforce.

4. It also says that if the transgender person 'should know that they will likely cause affront or alarm to' others in bathrooms, they will be charged with criminal trespass, which carries a 6 month jail sentence.

5. If a transgender person from California enters a bathroom with an updated birth certificate and bottom surgery, they could potentially enter. But an identical person from Kansas would be unable due to birth certificate laws.

But there's more... this exception is all moot..

6. Because later in the bill, it removes all legal recognition for transgender people by defining sex legally as only what was assigned as birth.

This would could revert birth certificates and drivres licenses across the state.

7. In Kansas, an identical provision led to AG mandating the reversal of all drivers licenses and birth certificates.

This means that the exception for birth certificates may not even apply if they do this in Utah as well.

8. This will mean that any transgender person questioned in the bathroom could fall under criminal penalties.

Cisgender people could as well. There are high profile cases of many cis women being mistaken as trans. They may have their birth certificates and genitals investigated.

9. This will profoundly impact travel for trans people. Salt Lake City is a major connecting flight hub. Trans people could be arrested in the airport under this law:

The bill's sponsor KeraBirk is currently crying because she had to bring this bill and because people are attacking her for it.

They just called the question and may be about to pass it through the house.

The criminal adult trans bathroom ban has passed the Utah house 52-17.

This is a terrifying day for trans people in Utah and anyone who has to travel through it.

It now goes to the Senate.
