Apply to & advertise the AAS CSMA Micro-grants program! Offers grants of >$500 to support BIPOC undergrads to pay grad school app fees, GRE testing fees, virtual conference registrations, or to purchase textbooks & research supplies. Deadline is Oct 13! aas.org/posts/news/202…

I am disappointed that the NSF GRFP does not support students in PhD programs who earned masters degrees elsewhere. I suspect that this restriction is especially limiting to BIPOC students and Bridge students.

Tip for those applying to grad school: many programs use rubrics now to evaluate applications. For examples, see Appendix V of the 2018 AAS Task Force on Diversity & Equity in Astronomy Grad Education Report (PDF here: assets.pubpub.org/8n7rgw19/31579…), e.g. this rubric from UT Austin.

.UMBC's Adi Foord, PhD explains the science behind the time-travel fiction. Spoiler: Prof. Foord quotes the incomparable Stephen Hawking: "The best evidence we have that time travel isn't possible is that we haven't been invaded by tourists from the future." discovermagazine.com/the-sciences/i…

Congratulations to the #XRISM instrument teams! Resolve (the microcalorimeter) has even better energy resolution than its requirement, and look at that beautiful image from Xtend! Excited for all the AGN science to come :)

For 24 years, the Chandra X-ray observatory has unraveled the mysteries of the universe from right here in Massachusetts. With Chandra poised for groundbreaking discoveries into the 2030s, I'm urging NASA to continue Chandra's missions and enable many more years of discovery.
